Van maintenance packages explained
By the FleetMe team · Updated 14 October 2026 · 8 min read
The short answer
A maintenance package rolls servicing, replacement tyres, MOT and mechanical wear items into your monthly rental. It does not cover fuel, insurance, accident damage, misfuelling or neglect. Its real value is predictable cost and less time off the road.

Tell us the vehicle, the term and the annual mileage you need and we come back with a written quote, and we aim to do that the same working day. Rentals are quoted ex VAT with the VAT-inclusive figure alongside, and your agreement is with FleetMe.

FAQs
What does a van lease maintenance package cover?
Scheduled servicing to the manufacturer’s schedule, replacement tyres worn through normal use, the MOT once due, and mechanical wear items such as brake pads and discs, wipers, bulbs, exhausts and batteries. Roadside assistance is usually included too.
What is not covered by a maintenance package?
Fuel, charging and AdBlue, insurance, accident damage, glass, misfuelling, lost keys, kerbed wheels and damaged tyres, damage from overloading or missed servicing, tolls and clean-air charges, and anything you fitted yourself. Punctures are frequently excluded or capped, check your inclusion list.
When does a new van need its first MOT?
Three years after first registration, then annually. Vans up to 3,000kg design gross weight take a class 4 test; vans between 3,001kg and 3,500kg need a class 7 test, which not every garage is equipped to carry out. Use the GOV.UK MOT centre finder and filter by class.
Do 4.25-tonne electric vans need an MOT or an HGV test?
From 1 June 2026, zero-emission goods vehicles between 3,501kg and 4,250kg design gross weight move into MOT class 7 instead of the HGV annual test regime, with the first test due three years after registration and a 1.6mm minimum tyre tread requirement (DVSA, MOT special notice 01-26).
Is a maintenance package worth it?
It is usually worth it for higher-mileage vans, fleets of more than two or three vehicles, and any operation where a day off the road costs real revenue. If you have your own workshop, low mileage and can absorb an unexpected bill, paying as you go can work out fine.
Can I reclaim the VAT on the maintenance element?
Yes, in full, where maintenance is charged separately and shown as its own element on the invoice. It sits outside the 50% input tax block that applies to car lease rentals (HMRC VAT Notice 700/64, sections 4.5 to 4.6). We itemise it separately on the quote and the invoice.
